Give a compliment that notices the person
Show interest in their style, sense of humor or something they have shared. A compliment does not need to become a description of their body. Avoid presenting trans people as an experience you want to try. You can be clear about attraction while leaving the other person free to respond as they wish.
Ask whether intimacy is a welcome topic
Before moving towards sexual conversation, check whether the subject is welcome. A simple question such as ‘Would you like to talk about what attracts us?’ gives someone a choice. Do not send intimate material without agreement or treat an earlier conversation as permanent permission to do so.
Listen to the language they use
Preferences and words for one's own body are personal. Do not infer sexual practices, roles or boundaries from a gender identity. Ask what language feels comfortable and accept that someone may not want to go into detail. Discussing intimacy must also allow ‘not yet’ or a change of subject.
